Merry Babymas! (5 weeks)
Posted on December 27, 2005, in Pregnancy Journal by Mom | No CommentsWell, that went over well! Needless to say, Francine was happy happy happy for us. We had a wonderful Christmas morning. Francine shared stories of her pregnancies with us. Mark found out he was bottle fed. It was amazing the things we/he didn’t know about it! We had a really cool celebration. On to the Cutlers! We drove to Worcester on Christmas day. I called my parents from the road to let them know we had decided after all to come to Worcester that night rather than wait until the next day. They were down at the Kennedys, visiting Lizzy’s newborn baby and enjoying glasses of wine with my godparents. I got off the phone, turned to Mark and said, “This is perfect: they’re oohing and aahing over babies and they’re drunk!” We arrived in Worcester, sat down around the Christmas tree and I made the announcement. Ha! They were shocked! It was funny. Mom was thrilled, Dad was dumbstruck, and Kimby was already dreaming of knitted onesies… It is fun telling people!

Posted on December 23, 2005, in Pregnancy Journal by Mom | No CommentsWe had Christina and Jeff over for dinner last night. Despite my weak attempt to fool them that I was “not feeling well” and therefore not partaking of the eggnog, Christina guessed our little secret shortly into dinner. Busted! Agent Soriano figured it out. Exciting to share the news with someone, as we are bursting! We have decided to wait until Christmas to announce the news to the grandparents-to-be… it’s slightly torturous to hold off but we couldn’t resist saving this golden nugget of news to share while opening up stockings!
First to find out (4 weeks)
Posted on December 22, 2005, in Pregnancy Journal by Dad | No CommentsOK, so here is the results of the P Test from Dad’s point of view (P stands for pregnancy by the way… I know what you were thinking.): Just the thought that this thing might actually come out positive had me in a state of uncontrollable excitement. The entire time Nancy was in the restroom, I was outside pacing, and yes, skipping around the living room (picture short leaps in the air with feet fluttering underneath me). I actually yelled through the door that I wanted to call my Mom (I’m talking right then and there, before the tests results were back). Nancy told me to calm down, and that even if the results were positive, there was a big chance things wouldn’t stick since we were so early in the grand scheme of things. When they did in fact come back positive, I once again expressed my uncontrollable NEED to tell somebody. Nancy calmed me down once more and told me that we should not, even could not, tell anybody just yet. She told me I was actually going to have to wait 3 months!
After feigning recognition of this newly imposed draconian law, I quietly slipped into my office and sent an Instant Message to my best of friends, and closest confidant, Van Rogers-Ho. You see, Van and his wife Beth were 9 months pregnant and about to give birth any week now. They had JUST gone through all of this and I had NEVER. I needed some advice and I needed it right away because I was not about to make any mistakes. Van dispensed volumes of wisdom (including the fact that I should not tell anyone for 3 months). It was actually his idea that I go buy pregnancy tests in bulk and administer them on a fairly regular basis (Thanks, Van).
Soon after this wild flurry of Instant Messages, I had to confess to Nancy that I had broken our first rule. I have to admit, she was quite upset. So upset that I feared I would not be forgiven. She stormed off to be by herself (or so I thought). About 30 minutes later, she emerged from the bedroom. “I just told Abby” she said, with a bright red face and a guilty grin…
