GENDER unknown…
Posted on July 28, 2006, in Pregnancy Journal by Dad | No Comments… I repeat “The gender of the baby is unknown.”
It has been brought to my attention that a rumour has been circulating regarding the gender of the baby. The rumour is that the gender of the baby is known by its parents and that they have strategically placed clues throughout the baby journal alluding to its gender.
In retrospect, I kinda wish we did know and that I had thought of encrypting the baby’s gender in the very annals of its gestation. That DOES sound like more fun than anticipating the final outcome for 9 torturous months… However, the fact remains that Mom and Dad have no idea whatsoever as to the gender of their unborn child (why else would the baby’s room contain so much orange?).
After hearing of the rumour, I promptly scanned each entry in the site looking for a statement that may have been miscontrued as a hint to the baby’s gender and my search resulted in nil. If any of our statements have some sort of a cryptic reference to gender, we assure you they are unintentional. However, they may reveal a subconscious preference for one gender over another.
For those of you who still think there is a conspiracy here:
- Take the ASCII representation of the first letter in each sentance of this post.
- Convert it to binary (you will end up with a string of 1’s and 0’s about 472 characters in length).
- Take the character in the 2nd position.
- Append to it the character in the 3rd position.
- Now the 5th…
- Progress through the chain using the standard fibonacci progression.
- You should be left with a binary representation of the sex chromosomes of the baby.
- If you get a strange result (like ZX) try repeating this process with the next post.
I recommend waiting 4 more weeks like the rest of us… ![]()
The Great Outdoors (33 weeks)
Posted on July 19, 2006, in Pregnancy Journal by Mom | No CommentsWith seven weeks to go, Mark and I took our last vacation before the little whippersnapper’s arrival. We joined my parents at their summer cottage on Keuka Lake in western New York. Being away from the home renovations and nursery preparation, Mark and I were excited to get outside and soak in some sun. We visited Watkins Glen with Mom and trudged up 800 steps, enjoying the 13 beautiful waterfalls along the ascent. Another highlight of the week included a trip to Chimney Bluffs State Park in Wolcott, NY, where we admired some natural glacial deposits of sand and rock. We hit more than a half dozen geocaches in other adventures around the lake, educating ourselves on the local Native American history of the Finger Lake region along the way. (Sagoyewatha is in the running for baby names, incidentally). The baby seemed to enjoy mom and dad taking it easy, as he/she was incredibly active, wriggling around in my belly the whole time.
Aside from the outdoors, I also enjoyed a lovely shower thrown by old and dear family friends Pat Barden and Charissa Roberts. It was wonderful to share this event with the women I’ve spent all my summers with since I was a baby. Filled with generous gifts, nursery rhyme quizzes, and delicious food, the shower was absolutely perfect. Thanks Pat and Charissa for all your hard work! The arrival of a new member of the family has started to become more real as I opened up little outfits, toys, books, and blankets. So excited to incorporate these new additions into the developing nursery! Our little bugger thanks all of you ladies for your generosity!!
