Posted on September 11, 2006, in Baby Journal by Dad | No CommentsCan you believe how quickly time flies? Ruby has been a constant reminder that every moment is to be fully embraced and revered, and that time spent sleeping is just wasted time… The past two weeks have been a whirlwind of firsts for parents and child alike. Ruby lost her umbilical cord stump and hence got to have her first tub bath. Mom and Dad learned how to soothe a screaming newborn by watching Dr. Harvey Karp’s Happiest Baby on the Block DVD (A HUGE THANKS TO ABBY AND GEORGE ALBRECHT FOR THAT!). The 5 S’s (swaddle, side-lie, shush, shake, suck) have had a profound impact on my life and have given me the illusion of control over my crying baby.
Ruby gets cuter and bigger each day, averaging a gain of over an ounce a day since she left the hospital! Needless to say, she loves to eat. Burping and crapping are highly revered activitites for her as well. She can be a good sleeper when she wants to be and has even spent a few nights (or a good portion thereof) in her own room! Where walks in the stroller were a sure way to soothe a screaming Ruby, she has switched allegiances and now prefers the BabyBjorn over the stroller any time. Mom could not be happier as she once again has full use of both of her arms!
