Ruby Bounces to Bertha
Happy New Year!
Posted on January 10, 2007, in Baby Journal by Dad | 1 CommentI decided that I just couldn’t avoid the ever growing pile of fan (e)mail Ruby has been getting over the past few months pleading for MORE PICTURES. I apologize for the log gap between posts and photos but who knew parenting could be so demanding?! We sure didn’t (obviously). Ruby is doing well, very well. She is about 4 and a half months old now and can already sit up on the floor unassisted! Put a toy or two at her feet and she can entertain herself for minutes at a time (yes I know, that still leaves HOURS for Mom and Dad to provide the entertainment). She still loves her activity center but has been requesting more time in the Jumpster (that seat that hangs in a doorway and allows the kid to jump and bounce all over the place.) She is an incredibly serious child who is very attentive and always concerned and interested in what her parents are up to. Ruby’s new year’s resolution was to sleep through the night and she has not broken it yet! She goes to bed in her crib every night at 7:30 and usually wakes us up sometime between 4:30 and 5:00 am for breakfast. Mom and Dad are not complaining.
Unfortunately, Ruby seems to have inherited her father’s digestive woes and is currently on a dairy, soy and egg restricted diet. This actually means that MOM is also off the dairy, soy, and eggs. Her Dr. assures us that this is actually quite normal for babies her age and that these intolerances should clear up soon. On a positive note, it hasn’t affected Ruby’s development at all and she is weighing and measuring in the 75th percentile for her age!
The Holidays
Ruby’s Holiday Tour included stops in New Haven and Bristol Connecticut, Worcester Massachusetts, a party in Franklin and then a New Year’s retreat to Martha’s Vineyard to recharge her batteries. Santa was good to her, and so were her friends and family as well. Her most notable gift was a handcrafted high chair custom made by her very own grandfather! However, the travel, new faces, hectic pace and gift unwrapping took quite a toll on the little tyke. By holiday’s end she was pretty fussy and her sleep schedule could hardly be considered a schedule at all. Fortunately, Aunt Patsy offered her home on Martha’s Vineyard to our tiny family while she partied the holidays away in Mexico. All we had to do was water the house plants! Not a bad deal, and Ruby could not have been more appreciative of the quiet time alone with her Mom and Dad.
