A tooth has emerged (and other significant events)!
Posted on April 30, 2007, in Baby Journal by Dad | 1 CommentI know many of you are curious as to what Ruby has been up to for the past couple of months, and I apologize for not keeping her blog up to date. However, once your little bugger starts moving around, there is NO time for such leisurely pursuits.
While not motoring forward just yet, Ruby has figured out how to crawl around pretty well in the reverse direction. She transitions from the crawling position to the sitting position and back again with ease and can pull her self up to standing with just a little help. She prefers standing over sitting and she can place one foot in front of the other if Mom or Dad stand over her holding her hands. We recently lowered her crib down to the lowest position when we caught her pulling herself up on the top crib rail. Ruby has recently discovered that when she awakens in her crib, she no longer has to be confined to her back or stomach. We can never predict what position she will be in, or what she will be doing when we go get her in the morning.
As you might be able to tell from the photos (keep an eye out for large, meaty thighs or popeye sized forearms), one of Ruby’s favorite pastimes is EATING. Ruby loves Baby Mum-Mum (very large rice crackers) the most, followed by banana halves. She won’t let Mom or Dad have a snack without protesting for one of her own.
Ruby is very excited that Spring has finally arrived and loves to watch her Mom and Dad work around the house from her blanket laid out in the grass. If Dad is working from home, he’ll often take her for a quick hike in the woods before dropping her off at daycare. Ruby is an animal lover and enjoys petting the neighbor’s cats, and her grandparent’s dogs. She also tries to “talk” to the birds and squirrels that frequent the backyard while watching them from the window.
There are no dicernable words yet. However, its not for lack of trying. Ruby is quite a vocal little child and can even hold a note or two. Recently, she has started trying to mimic some of the objects her parents point out (Dad thinks her first word will be “kitty-cat”). When playing by herself she can often be heard trying out new sounds in a whisper.
Ruby is taking swimming lessons at the YMCA and takes turns with Mom and Dad each week. While kicking and scooping are somewhat intersting to her, she is much more interested in what all the other kids are doing.
And oh, I almost forgot! Just last week Ruby started waving hello and goodbye! That’s it for now. Be sure to check out the pictures and video pages for pictures posted in the past few months. I may not write about her very often, but I do post pictures and video quite regularly.
Eating a Baby Mum-Mum

Ruby tries using a spoon
Posted on April 17, 2007, in Baby Journal, Video by Dad | No CommentsQuite intent on taking care of this eating business all on her own, Ruby persuades her Dad to turn the spoon over to her:
