Father’s Day at the Beach
Posted on June 19, 2007, in Baby Journal by Dad | 1 CommentRuby is going to be 10 months old in just a couple of days! Mom and Dad are still trying to figure out how to give Ruby her own (safe) space without cramping her style too much. She can crawl at speeds of over 35 feet a minute and can even negotiate multi-level terrain. She pulls herself up on any stationary object and loves changing her point of view. Throwing balls BACK to Dad is not all that intuitive to Ruby as that would require her to give up whatever ball she is currently holding. Before long she ends up with three or more balls in her lap. Dad is thinking she may skip throwing and go straight to juggling.
Realizing that Mom and Dad do not speak her language, Ruby has been trying her best to speak (or sign) in their native tongue. They seem to be clueless at times to her wants and needs and she does not have the patience for them to figure it out. Early attempts at communication are shaking her head very persuasively when she does not approve of the dinner menu, and most recently holding her open hands in the air when she has had enough food. Mom and Dad can swear she has said “I, done” on a couple of occasions. Ruby also points at anything that moves. Her two favorite stuffed animals are Buster the brown bear and Floppy the dog. She knows them by name and cannot go to bed without one or the other in her arms.
Ruby has been spending a great deal of time with her best friend, Sophia. Her entire body stiffens up and a huge grin comes across her face at the sight of her, or even just the utterance of her name. This past weekend, Ruby and Sophia took their Dads to the Cape to celebrate their first Father’s Day! Somehow it ended up being ALL about them!

It’s been a couple of months since we posted any photos. Be sure to check out the albums for May and June!
Taking a sip from Mom’s water glass
Posted on June 10, 2007, in Baby Journal, Video by Dad | No CommentsRuby is no longer content with baby food, baby spoons, sippy cups or anything else scaled down to her baby size. She wants to eat and drink whatever Mom and Dad have and she sees no reason why her serving should be any smaller than theirs:
Eating watermelon
Posted on June 4, 2007, in Baby Journal, Video by Dad | No CommentsOne of Ruby’s favorite finger foods has to be cubed watermelon. See what happens when Mom and Dad give her an entire slice. Those two little teeth can do a lot of damage!
