Bunny-bees

With spring in effect and the flowers in our perennial garden in full bloom, the neighborhood has been unusually busy with those little black and yellow flying insects, known around our house as “bunny-bees!” Have you heard of anything cuter than that?! I think it is a vast improvement over the generally accepted term “bumble-bee.” I think I may write Merriam-Webster and ask for some sort of amendment. If we want English to remain the most commonly spoken language around the globe, we are going to have to start adding hip new words like bunny-bee.

Puttin on my own shoes

Ruby has started showing great interest in dressing herself. She has had limited success with slipping on jackets, poking her head through the shirt hole and finding the shirt sleeve with an arm or two. She can get her own socks on but not before stretching the heck out of them until they hardly resemble a sock anymore. She can sometimes work her shoes on. More often than not, they are on the right foot, errrr, correct foot! This could be due to acceptable ranges in probability, or maybe she really DOES get the difference between right and left.

Big kid swings!

Mom and Dad took turns entertaining Ruby this weekend while the other packed for the big move. When I picked her up from daycare the other day, I noticed she had started using the “big kids swings” instead of those “little kid ones” that look like a giant pair of rubber diapers. Ruby wanted to show me her skills on the big kid swings so I taught her a little bit about the magic of self perpetuated motion.

Daddy say cheese!

Ruby now knows how to turn the camera on and off with ease. She still hasn’t realized that our camera does not have a view finder. This results in some very poor quality photographs (lots of shoes, fingers, blurred blades of grass, etc).

Collecting some rocks

As I was packing the car this morning, I noticed Ruby was working on some sort of project. I snuck up to find her collecting rocks from around the yard.

Ruby and her cousins came to support their Dads as they ran in the Vision 5K race together today.

Summertime!

Mom and Dad were pretty envious of Ruby this weekend as we watched her splash around in her tiny little pool, finding a bit of relief in the first heat wave of 2008.

An early morning stomp in the mud

Ruby hadn’t had time to get dressed yet before we all had to take Mom to the train station this morning. When we got back, Ruby, clad in pajamas and rubber boots decided to stomp around in some puddles.

What Daddy Doin?

I started seasoning the grill when I got home from work tonight. Soon after I started, Mom pulled in the driveway after having picked Ruby up from daycare. She unstrapped Ruby from her seat and placed her on the ground then proceeded to gather up some stuff from the car. Ruby walked up to me and said “What Daddy doin?” I said, “I’m seasoning the grill!” Never in my life had I been so excited to explain to someone “what I was doin.” I look forward to answering that, and any other question my daughter asks me in our future together.
